I installed your awarding this way:
i. I allowed the organisation to install your applcation, which in portage is still
marked unsatble this way:
- I added this line to the file /etc/portage/package.keywords :

2. I run sally audacity
It was installed this way: media-sound/audacity-1.2.three-r1 +encode +flac +gtk2
-libsamplerate +mad -oggvorbis
three. Succesfully installed, I selected from my menu bar your application. It
does endeavour to load, only nix is shown on my monitor.

And so, I did look at my messages log and here is what I constitute:

You could try emerging strace, and so running
strace audacity
in a terminal to run into if you tin can spot what it's doing before it crashes that might exist causing it.

Whatsoever idea?

Also, in konsole (KDE) is there a way to retain the unabridged list of executed lines (mostly from the beginning)? at the end, when it stops, if I get back to the beginning to where I run strace brazenness, I do not find the very first. Has it to do with konsole settings?

thank yous,
Spiro

It looks like it'due south crashing because of gtk or pango, merely I don't really know how 1 would go about fixing that, other than trying newer versions of those.

As for the buffer size in konsole, wait for an choice called "history".

Running "LANG=C audacity" the first time to choose the language makes it run fine, thereafter you lot tin run brazenness by the usual "audacity" and information technology's working fine. Trouble solved for me.

Hi xevix,

Hither some notes from audacity team:
" At a minimum, Audacity i.ii.10 requires [wxWidgets]. Currently we recommend using version 2.4.0. You're welcome to employ any ii.4.x release, but at that place were some new bugs in 2.4.i that cause problems, so the Audacity developers are mostly sticking with 2.iv.0. Audacity will not piece of work with wxX11 (every bit it's incomplete, and things like dialogues are missing that we demand), or with unicode builds of wxWidgets (then configure with --disable-unicode) "

"Audacity does not currently support the Unicode or GTK2 builds of wxWidgets. When configuring wxWidgets on Unix, make sure you don't enable these features"

But,
"Audacity i.3 (unstable)
The development branch of audacity (version ane.3, currently only in CVS) requires wxWidgets two.six.0 or higherUnicode and GTK2 builds are supported by default. Older evolution versions (2.5.x) may not work, so get the electric current wxWidgets 2.six release."

Then, what does this hateful or translate into?

I currently have x11-libs/wxGTK-ii.6.two
Linux 2.6.12-gentoo-r9 #five Thu Sep 29 13:16:16 CEST 2022 x86_64 AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3200+ AuthenticAMD GNU/Linux

Is there annihilation similar brazenness, uncomplicated just effective untill audacity 1.3 comes out?

Thank you,
Spiro

Try the following:
Code:
repeat "x11-libs/wxGTK -gtk2 -unicode wxgtk1" >> /etc/portage/parcel.use
echo "media-sound/audacity -gtk2" >> /etc/portage/package.use
emerge -5 =x11-libs/wxGTK-2.four.2-r3 =media-audio/audacity-1.2.iii-r1

Promise that helps.

How-do-you-do GNUtritious,

Thanks to you information technology is the get-go time I am able to compile and install and run audacity. Great task.

Here is the output of:

Code:
# emerge -pv =x11-libs/wxGTK-2.four.2-r3 =media-sound/audacity-ane.2.3-r1

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating dependencies ...washed!
[ebuild   R   ] x11-libs/wxGTK-2.4.two-r3  -debug -gtk2* +odbc +opengl -unicode* +wxgtk1* 0 kB
[ebuild   R   ] media-sound/audacity-i.2.3-r1  +encode +flac -gtk2* -libsamplerate +mad +oggvorbis 0 kB

As you lot can run across +wxgtk1*

Thank you,
Spiro

x11-libs/wxGTK-2.6.ii [two.6.1] +Ten -debug +doc -gnome -joystick +odbc +opengl +sdl -unicode*
// keep in listen that I run gentoo amdt64 //

At present, I accept both wxGTK-2.6.2 and wxGTK-2.4.2-r3 and that I installed audacity this way:

Code:
emerge -pv =x11-libs/wxGTK-ii.4.2-r3 =media-audio/audacity-i.2.3-r1

I encounter some differences in my apply flags and yours. Could that be that this is the issue?

Delight advice...

thank you,
Spiro

Hei SAngeli

I would effort removing the -gtk2 flag from wherever you have put information technology (make.conf or package.employ ?) and re-emerge with --newuse option.

Btw, my Use flags in make.conf are:

Lawmaking:
USE="a52 aac audiofile cddb cdparanoia dts dvd dvdr dvdread javascript alive
lm_sensors mmx network nptl ppds existent rtc sse sse2 theora usb win32codecs
xvid -fortran -gnome -gtk"

Good morning Cintra,

Hither is my current employ settings 8as audacity compiled):

Lawmaking:
- - gtk2          : Use gtk+-two.0.0 over gtk+-ane.ii in cases where a program supports both.
+ + encode        : Adds back up for encoding of sound or video files
+ + flac          : Adds support for the flac audio codec
+ + mad           : Adds back up for mad (loftier-quality mp3 decoder library and cli frontend)
+ + oggvorbis     : <unknown>
- - libsamplerate : Build with libsamplerate support

I already did what you advertisement viced me to merely without whatever kind of result. I did non apply -gtk2 system wide rather I remove gtk2 this fashion into /etc/portage/package.use
Code:
x11-libs/wxGTK -gtk2 -unicode wxgtk1
media-sound/audacity -gtk2 -unicode

And, this is the proper output at emerge time:
Code:
x11-libs/wxGTK-2.4.2-r3 -debug -gtk2 +odbc +opengl -unicode +wxgtk1
media-sound/brazenness-1.2.iii-r1 +encode +flac -gtk2 -libsamplerate +mad +oggvorbi

Moreover, I have gtk and gtk2 enabled on another x86 PC and audacity works perfectly.

Now, I merely finished to update my system and am ready to perform earth updated (-uD).
If I would employ (emerge -pvuD --newuse world) the only packages I run into with * are:

Code:
[ebuild   R   ] media-gfx/xsane-0.97  +gimp -gtk2* +jpeg +nls +png +tiff 0 kB

So, not such of a big deal.
Now, before I remove system wide gtk2 delight explicate to me why should I remove it (although I employ kde). This because earlier I do and then, I wish to understand/learn the benefits and disadvantages toward applications.

So, equally of now, I have my brazenness compiled and loading; something I never achieved earlier. Could it be that the Error Initializing Audio. At that place was an error initializing the sound i/o layer refers to something else? I ask this because I do non know the direct relation between gtk2 and the above error, seeing that audacity at to the lowest degree loads.

Whatsoever other hints? Please communication/explain...

cheers for profitable me,
Spiro

+ + flac          : Adds support for the flac sound codec
+ + gtk2          : Use gtk+-two.0.0 over gtk+-one.two in cases where a plan supports both.
- - libsamplerate : Build with libsamplerate support
+ + mad           : Adds support for mad (high-quality mp3 decoder library and cli frontend)
+ + oggvorbis     : <unknown>
